About Vitals
A free, evidence-based health and fitness calculator platform built for Indians — with no signup, no fees, and no data collection.
Our Mission
Vitals exists to make accurate, evidence-based health information accessible to every Indian — without paywalls, without accounts, and without unnecessary complexity. Most health tools online are either built for Western populations, buried behind subscriptions, or cluttered with low-quality content. Vitals is different: straightforward calculators paired with honest, research-backed educational content.
Every calculator on Vitals uses validated, peer-reviewed formulas sourced from institutions including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Where Indian-specific data exists — such as BMI cutoffs for South Asians or vitamin D recommendations for India — we use it.

Our Commitment to E-E-A-T
Google's quality guidelines for health and medical content emphasise Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T). Here is how Vitals addresses each:
Experience
Built by a developer with a personal interest in health, fitness, and nutrition, informed by practical use of these calculators for personal health tracking.
Expertise
All formulas are sourced from peer-reviewed scientific literature and validated by major health organisations. Sources are cited on every calculator page and on our Sources page.
Authoritativeness
Vitals references WHO, CDC, NHS, ACSM, ICMR, Mayo Clinic, and other authoritative bodies. We do not manufacture health claims.
Trustworthiness
Clear medical disclaimers on every page. No misleading claims. No diagnostic assertions. Content is educational only. Read our disclaimer.
Calculation Methodology
Vitals uses established, peer-reviewed formulas for all calculations. Key methodological choices include:
- BMR/TDEE: Mifflin-St Jeor equation (1990), rated most accurate for general adults by a 2005 meta-analysis in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
- BMI classification: WHO standard categories plus Indian-adjusted thresholds from the 2009 Consensus Statement for Asian Indians.
- Ideal body weight: Devine formula (1974), the most widely used clinical IBW reference.
- Body fat (circumference): U.S. Navy method (Hodgdon & Beckett, 1984); BMI-based estimate uses Deurenberg formula (1991).
- Max heart rate: Fox formula (220 − age), with the Karvonen HRR method for target heart rate.
- 1RM estimation: Brzycki formula (1993).
- VO2 max estimate: Heart rate reserve estimation based on the Karvonen principle.
- Calories burned: MET-based formula using the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities (Ainsworth et al.).
- Protein targets: Based on ISSN Position Stand (2017) and WHO RDA standards.
All formulas are documented on our Sources & References page. If you identify an error or a more current formula, please contact us.
Who Built Vitals
Vitals was created by Chirayu Mahajan, an independent developer based in India with a passion for making health information accessible. The motivation was personal: frustration with health calculators that were Western-centric, paywalled, or cluttered with ads and misinformation.
Vitals is a solo project. Every calculator, line of code, and piece of content reflects a commitment to accuracy, simplicity, and respect for the user's privacy. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are welcome — reach out at vitals.health.in@gmail.com.
